Adjustments
Understanding Weight Adjustments at Happy-Post
At Happy-Post, we do everything we can to offer you the fairest shipping rates. When you prepare your shipment on our website, the price of your label is calculated based on the weight you declare.
However, the actual weight of the parcel sometimes differs from the initial estimate. Find out how our checks work and when a price adjustment may be applied to your account.
How is your parcel's weight verified?
As soon as your parcel arrives at our central depot, it goes through a mandatory inspection step. We use professional scales that are regularly calibrated and extremely precise.
It is common for a weight measured at home (using bathroom or kitchen scales) to show a slight difference compared to our professional measurement tools. The weight recorded at our depot is the official measurement used for the carrier’s final billing.
The weight tier rule and the 200-gram tolerance
A difference in weight does not automatically lead to additional charges. An adjustment is only triggered if the weight discrepancy pushes your parcel into a higher price tier.
To save you from minor fees, Happy-Post applies a 200-gram tolerance. If your parcel exceeds the declared weight but stays within this tolerance without changing the price tier, no adjustment will be requested.
How does weight adjustment work?
To help you understand, let's look at the following fictional pricing grid:
The weight changes, but not the pricing tier
You declare a package weighing 600 g and pay €7.00 excl. VAT. During inspection at our sorting center, the professional scale indicates an actual weight of 850 g.
Despite a 250 g difference, the package remains within the 501 g to 1,000 g pricing tier. The applicable price therefore remains €7.00 excl. VAT. No adjustment is applied.
Price after inspection - initial price
Tier change with a discrepancy under or equal to 200 g
You declare a package weighing 900 g and pay €7.00 excl. VAT. During inspection at our sorting center, the package is weighed at 1,050 g.
Even though the package shifts to a higher tier, the weight discrepancy (+150 g) is less than or equal to 200 g. As a result, no extra fees are generated. No adjustment is applied.
Price after inspection - initial price
Tier change with a discrepancy over 200 g
You declare a package weighing 800 g and pay €7.00 excl. VAT. During inspection at our sorting center, the package is weighed at 1,200 g.
The actual weight exceeds the 1 kg limit by more than 200 g (+400 g), and the price difference is €2.50. The package shifts to the higher tier, and the difference is billed.
Price after inspection - initial price
Tier change with a price difference under €1.00
You declare a package weighing 1,800 g and pay €9.50 excl. VAT. During inspection at our sorting center, the package is weighed at 2,150 g.
Even though the weight discrepancy is over 200 g (+350 g) and the package shifts to a higher tier, the price difference between the two tiers is only €0.80. Since this is less than €1.00, no extra charge is applied. No adjustment is applied.
Price after inspection - initial price
Key Takeaway
An adjustment is only triggered if two combined conditions are met:
1. The weight discrepancy must be strictly greater than 200 g.
2. The price difference between the initial tier and the correct tier must be €1.00 or more.
If either of these thresholds is not met, no extra fees will be applied.
